The renovation project has focused on a renewal energy and functional building and on a reinterpretation of the same building, reading the existing structure, knowing how to grasp the essential and sharp lines through a wise and “playful” use of colors, able to connote strongly the intervation. The few design ingredients (also due to stringent financial limits) have given a new vision of the whole school: a mix of warm and cool colors and the new external solar shading have defined the external facades; a new concrete flooring in cement, composed of parallel bands spaced out by grassy cloak, connotes the historic entrance of the school; the consolidation of walls attic, curbs, iron deteriorated, the restoration of the same walls and the replacement of rain asbestos cement with new rain sheet define interventions for school safety. To increase the energy performance of a building “energetically onnivore” has been necessary to insulate internally the floor covering panels of glass wool and plasterboard plates, and also has been necessary to realize on all elevations a thermal premixed plaster containing cork exclusively natural formulated with cork and natural hydraulic lime. The North wing of the school has been redesigned to accomodate the new kindergarten and by redefining the inside spaces have been included two classrooms with changing rooms, dining hall, a control area, two bathrooms and a gym.
The new colors also define the indoor spaces: a new red plastic pavement defines the spaces of distribution, instead dining hall and classrooms are characterized by softer colors.
